Once your baby is mobile, there is lots of childproofing to do. These few safety tips will save you a lot of pressure that comes with your curious baby’s movements.
- Remove all chockables:
Anything that can fit entirely in a baby’s mouth.
- Lock up any ‘’keep away from children’s reach”. Medications, insecticides, bottles of alcohol, and cleaning products are all examples of substances that should be hidden from children
- Cover electrical outlets with sliding safety plates so children do not stick their fingers or other objects and get shocked
- Secure your furnitures or electronics with wall brackets or supply straps so they do not pull them over and get hurt
- Cover sharp corners or edges with pads to soften the impact of falls
- Restrict access to danger zones such as stairs, windows, and railings. Install safety gates at the top and bottom of every stairway; keep furniture away from windows to present children for climbing up
- Never handle hot food or liquid with a child in your arm to prevent burns and scalding. Turn pot handles to the side so children can’t reach them.
- Never leave children unattended near a pool or tub. Have bathrooms locked when they are not in use.
