Breastfeeding a newborn may seem easy until you try. Here are some tips to make it a lot easier.
- Prioritize your Comfort
Newborn breastfeeding requires patience because it takes a lot of time. Take a position that won’t leave your body aching. Use pillows to support your back, neck and arm. Foot stools come in a very handy too. Do not start feeding the body until you are comfortable.
- Eat Healthy
Eat small meals with healthy snacks in between is a good way to stay healthy
- Accept Help
As much as possible, get help from family and friends with errands and task so you can get enough time to rest with your baby.
- Avoid Dehydration
Fluids intake throughout the day will keep you from dehydrating. You are likely to get thirsty while breastfeeding so be sure you keep water around you for easy access.
- Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine
Liquids during breastfeeding does not include alcohols and caffeine, these substances can accumulate in the baby’s system and pose great risks.
- Nurse on Both Breasts
Avoid the temptation to offer one breast to your baby. Let your baby nurse on the breast you did not feed them with the last time (or the one that was not completely empty).
