Safe Sleep Habits – SIDS Prevention

SIDS

SIDS is an acronym for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. There are risk factors involved but safe sleep habit for babies prevents the occurrence of SIDS.

Safe Sleep Habits to Reduce the Risk of SIDS

  1. Avoid co-sleeping: Other people could roll over and suffocate the baby.
  2. Place babies on their back to sleep: Their airways are clear and it is easier to breathe
  3. Place baby on a flat and firm mattress or surface: Do not leave babies to sleep in their swings or a reclined surface. If babies fall asleep in these gears, quickly transfer them to a flat and firm mattress
  4. Keep baby sleep space free from loose blankets, stuffed animals, pillows or toys and bumpers.
  5. No smoking around the baby
